About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Haematology Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Haematology department, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our services.

  • Develop and Maintain Communication
    • Develop and maintain effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care delivery.

    • Be proactive in developing your professional practice, demonstrating evidence of increasing autonomy, clinical judgment, and decision-making skills.

    • Promote, monitor, and maintain best practice in health, safety, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Operational Lead
    • Act as the day-to-day expert operational lead for Haematology, working autonomously and in collaboration with multidisciplinary professionals.

    • Provide clinical leadership and work alongside Haematology Consultants to develop evidence-based practice and maintain clinical excellence.
  • Expert Practitioner
    • Act as an expert practitioner, demonstrating and applying advanced skills and knowledge in the area of Haematology, and provide expert advice.
  • Investigations and Treatment
    • Assess the need for and order investigations within the scope of practice to meet national guidelines.
  • Nurse-Led Clinics
    • Develop nurse-led clinics to ensure Haematology patients receive appropriate treatment plans in line with national guidelines.

    • Support equality and value diversity, and plan, develop, and implement approaches to promote health and wellbeing and prevent adverse effects on health.

    • Address complex health and wellbeing needs and develop, monitor, and review care plans to meet those needs.

    • Assess physiological and psychological functioning when there are complex and/or undifferentiated abnormalities, diseases, and disorders, and develop, monitor, and review related treatment.

    • Have a visible presence within key points of entry across the Trust to prevent non-essential inpatient admissions and ensure timely discharges by the appropriate use of existing and the development of community services, enhancing patient experience.
  • Ambulatory and Home Care
    • Lead on future developments within Ambulatory and Home Care for Haematology patients.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting
    • Gather, analyze, and report a wide range of data and demonstrate a high level of complex decision-making in relation to the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of patient care.

  • Essential
    • Registered Nurse
    • MSc Advanced Practice
    • ILS or ALS Certificate
    • Relevant Teaching/Assessing/Mentoring Qualification
    • Post-registration qualification in speciality
    • Independent Nurse Prescribing
  • Desirable
    • Management qualification
    • Leadership Course

Experience and Knowledge

    • Post-registration experience in speciality

    • Understanding of the role Research and Development plays in Haematology and how this impacts Clinical Effectiveness
    • Ability to demonstrate understanding of current issues affecting Haematology services, including Clinical Governance and the NHS plan
    • Nurse-led management of minor illness, minor ailments, and injuries
    • Development of protocols and clinical guidelines
    • Leadership in quality initiatives, such as clinical benchmarking
