NHS Scotland is transitioning to a 37-hour working week, effective April 2024, with no reduction in pay. This change will also apply to part-time staff. This role requires the post holder to have a valid PVG Scheme membership or record. If the post holder is not a current member, an application will be made to Disclosure Scotland, and the results must be satisfactory before commencing in the position.

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced nurse or midwife to join our Lothian Sexual and Reproductive Health Service (LSRHS) team. The fully integrated service provides specialist sexual health services, including Tier 4 and 5 care, across four Community Health and Social Care Partnerships, serving 80,000 patient attendances annually.

The successful candidate will participate in the care of patients requiring Genitourinary Medicine, HIV, Contraceptive, unplanned pregnancy, and gynaecological care. Opportunities may arise to gain experience in Gender Identity, psychosexual problems, menopause, and other specialist areas within LSRHS.

Essential Criteria
  • First-level registered nurse/midwife with current NMC registration
  • Post-registration qualification in sexual and reproductive health (or willingness to undertake)
  • Minimum of two years post-registration experience, including some experience in sexual health or a related area
  • Non-judgmental, person-centered approach
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently
  • Effective communication skills
  • Highly developed clinical consultation skills
  • Willingness to work unsocial hours and travel independently to local clinics throughout Lothian
Desirable Criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of contraceptive options for women
  • Experience of using MI techniques to promote behavior change
