Shrewsbury, Shropshire, United Kingdom Dogs Trust Full time

Are you skilled in developing and executing canine behaviour modification strategies? Have you successfully overseen and nurtured small teams of staff or volunteers?

We are seeking a Behavioural Team Leader to spearhead training and behaviour initiatives for dogs under the care of Dogs Trust, concentrating on initial evaluations and establishing tailored behaviour modification plans for each dog.

Role Overview:
As a Behavioural Team Leader, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing the behaviour of dogs in the facility, pinpointing those that may require further interventions, and providing the Rehoming Centre Manager with insights regarding any behavioural challenges faced by the dogs,
  • Leading a dedicated team of behaviour specialists tasked with executing behaviour plans for individual dogs, while also mentoring and guiding the broader team in this domain,
  • Acting as the duty manager on a rotational basis in the absence of the centre manager,
  • Collaborating with fellow managers to communicate Standard Operating Procedures and ensuring their effective implementation across the team.

Candidate Profile:
To excel in this position, you should possess a strong understanding of canine behaviour and welfare, including the origins of undesired behaviours and the foundational principles of various behavioural rehabilitation techniques. Previous experience in a kennel environment and exceptional interpersonal and team leadership skills are essential.

About Dogs Trust:
Our passion for dogs drives us to ensure that every canine companion receives the love and care they deserve. We are committed to never euthanizing a healthy dog, focusing our efforts on assisting dogs in need, supporting their owners, and fostering a brighter future for dogs. Since our inception in 1891, we have grown to become the UK's foremost dog charity, helping thousands of loyal companions find their forever homes each year.

Team Dynamics:
Our rehoming centres accommodate thousands of dogs annually until they can be placed in loving homes. The success of our centres is attributed to our devoted team of staff and volunteers, creating a true family-like community within each centre. Regardless of the weather, our team is dedicated to ensuring that the dogs enjoy the best possible quality of life. With thousands of visitors each month, our rehoming centres represent Dogs Trust, and we take pride in delivering exceptional customer service.

Important Information:
The management team shares on-call responsibilities, and a full, clean manual driving licence is required. Working hours are scheduled from Monday to Sunday on a rotational basis, subject to discussion during the interview process.
