About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist to join our team at Nuffield Health Tunbridge Wells Hospital. As a Senior Biomedical Scientist - Histology, you will play a key role in supporting the training and development of other staff members, while also overseeing routine histology practices and ensuring the highest standards of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead Histology Team: Provide expert guidance and support to junior staff members, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform histology tasks.
  • Oversee Routine Histology Practices: Carry out and oversee routine histology practices, including dissection, microtomy, embedding, manual coverslipping, troubleshooting, validation of reagents, and participation in NEQAS.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of specimens, results, reagents, and consumables.
  • Equipment Validation: Support the organisation in validating and assessing new histology equipment.
  • Professional Development: Have the opportunity to undertake a management qualification or higher specialist in cell pathology if desired.
  • Quality Management: Assist in the maintenance and improvement of quality management systems required for UKAS accreditation.
Requirements
  • HCPC Registration: Be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Laboratory Experience: Have relevant laboratory experience in histology with multi-disciplinary biomedical science.
  • Extensive Histology Experience: Have extensive histology experience, with knowledge to accompany this at specialist diploma level.
  • Technique Knowledge: Have a good working knowledge of different histological techniques, ideally with dissection experience.
  • Equipment Knowledge: Have a good working knowledge of different analytical equipment in a range of multi-disciplinary techniques.
  • Laboratory Processes: Have a good understanding of laboratory processes and day-to-day running of a laboratory.
  • Customer Relationships: Be able to understand the importance of maintaining good customer relationships and providing high levels of service in a modern pathology laboratory.
  • Personal Qualities: Be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual able to multi-task and meet deadlines.
