The Research, Capacity and Growth Branch, part of the Science Research and Evidence Directorate (SRE) at DHSC, plays a pivotal role in shaping policies that enhance research initiatives across England through the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).

This branch is responsible for overseeing funding allocations for NIHR research infrastructure and faculty, fostering a sustainable research workforce capable of facilitating, delivering, and leading innovative research. The funding provided by NIHR supports centers of excellence throughout England, enabling groundbreaking studies in various health domains, including dementia, cancer, mental health, and cardiovascular diseases. Role Responsibilities

This position presents a unique opportunity to influence national policies significantly. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and assisting in the development of policies related to NIHR infrastructure schemes, addressing current and future research gaps, and proposing effective solutions.
  • Contributing to policy initiatives that align with ongoing government strategies across various departments, including key documents and reviews related to clinical research and workforce planning.
  • Preparing comprehensive briefings for senior officials and ministers, addressing parliamentary inquiries, and managing correspondence related to parliamentary matters.
  • Establishing and nurturing strong collaborative relationships with policy colleagues, NIHR Coordinating Centres, other governmental departments, and external stakeholders.
  • Effectively managing multiple priorities and adapting to the dynamic demands from various stakeholders.

Key Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • A proven history of achieving objectives and meeting deadlines while managing competing priorities effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate productive relationships across the organization and with external partners.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to distill complex information into accessible language.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and evidence, providing clear solutions and insights for diverse audiences.
  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree.

Desirable:

  • A solid understanding of the health and care research landscape.
  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field that includes a focus on scientific research or health-related subjects.
