Job Title: Principal Design Engineer - Rail and Civil

Keltbray Infrastructure Services Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Principal Design Engineer to join our Wentworth House Rail Design Team in Preston Brook, Runcorn, Cheshire.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the design of rail and civil engineering projects, ensuring compliance with quality management systems, and providing technical guidance and support to project teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead and manage the design of rail and civil engineering projects, ensuring compliance with quality management systems.
  2. Undertake system, basic, allocation, and construction design of railway electrification in accordance with International, National, Railway Group, and Network Rail Company Standards.
  3. Ensure the application of Company Design Assurance to all allocated projects.
  4. Assist in determining the design scope and preparing the valuation of design elements as part of the tendering process.
  5. Undertake site surveys and lead the team of engineers and technicians in the production of design calculations and drawings.
  6. Maintain coordination of feasibility studies, outline, and detailed design proposals.
  7. Approve the work of design engineers and CAD technicians.
  8. Manage the interfacing of allocated Design Team(s) with Construction and Commissioning Team(s) where relevant to allocated electrification design & construct projects.
  9. Assist in maintaining Design Procedures to ensure they meet the company's quality and environmental procedures and current best engineering practice.
  10. Undertake the role of Contractor's Responsible Engineer as required.
  11. Undertake consultancy projects (feasibility, outline design, etc.) in the role of Senior Project Engineer.
Requirements:
  1. Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent.
  2. Demonstrated application of, and compliance with, Engineering Assurance processes and requirements relating specifically to the discipline for which they are being appointed.
  3. CEng status within a relevant Engineering Council Approved Body (IMechE, ICE, IET, PWI).
Knowledge and Skills:
  1. General overall competence in design as detailed in B.
  2. Able to demonstrate they meet the performance and knowledge requirements of CRE01 as detailed in B.
  3. Understanding of different engineering disciplines and the relationships and interdependencies between them.
  4. Sound understanding of Network Rail's requirements regarding the Risk Assessment process.
  5. Knowledge of Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards.
  6. Understanding of safety, quality, and environmental issues relevant to the railway environment.
  7. Knowledge of OLE design range applicable to current projects.
  8. Experience in generating Technical Queries (TQN) and Requests for Information (RFI), Early Warning Notices (EWN), and contract variations.
  9. Experience in Commercial and Design processes.
  10. Able to demonstrate they meet the performance and knowledge requirements of CEM01 as detailed in B.
  11. Experience in management of design and CAD engineers and teams.
  12. Ability to read contract requirements and implement the technical requirements specified therein.
  13. Advanced Office 365 skills, specifically Excel.
  14. Proven ability to prepare engineering documentation.
  15. Proven track record in tendering and managing standard/complex/major projects, including sub-contractors.
  16. Commercial awareness with knowledge of budgetary and financial control.
  17. Ability to work across conflicting interest groups to develop solutions to complex operational and commercial problems.
