Job Overview

Position: Tank Erector
Type: Full-time

Wood is seeking a skilled Tank Rigger / Erector with significant experience in the Oil, Gas, and Chemical sectors.

Objective / Role
  • To provide a high-quality, consistent, and proficient plating construction service in line with project and company standards.
  • To contribute to the overall achievement of company objectives and timelines.
  • To ensure all tasks are performed safely, minimizing any adverse effects on personnel, materials, or the environment.
Key Responsibilities

Main Duties
  • Manage the slinging of materials for transportation within and outside of tanks at ground level.
  • Oversee the slinging of materials for lifting over tank shells onto roofs (both floating and fixed).
  • Ensure the safe erection, utilization, and dismantling of tank staging.
  • Safely erect, use, and dismantle tank jacks.
  • Utilize blocks, shackles, tirfors, pull lifts, and winches safely.
  • Handle loading and unloading of transport vehicles.
  • Employ rigging and slinging techniques for managing materials, including shell plates, floor plates, and roof structures.
  • Safely erect all types of tank floors, shells, and roofs.
  • Adjust shells to meet required verticality and roundness as per allowable tolerances.
  • Utilize erection aids such as shims, carrots, nuts, wedges, and keyways.
  • Recognize and apply knowledge of cranes, erection techniques, positioning, capacities, and signaling.
  • Operate mobile lifting equipment, including forklifts and hydraulic systems.
  • Maintain and inspect personal tools and equipment.
  • Understand statutory lifting regulations.
  • Prepare sites for rigging and lifting operations.
  • Conduct pre-use inspections and maintain equipment.
  • Develop basic lifting plans.
  • Adhere to approved method statements.
  • Safely remove tank roofs, shells, and ancillary components.
  • Work in hazardous areas under a 'permit to work' system.
  • Perform tasks at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Prioritize safety and halt any unsafe work practices.
  • Assess risks before commencing work.
Qualifications

Essential Skills:
  • Documented evidence of competency for the role.
  • Banksman certification.
  • Slinger certification.
  • CCNSG safety passport.
  • Minimum of two years of rigging experience in tank construction or equivalent heavy engineering and construction activities.
