We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Marine Biologist/Environmental Consultant to join our team at Ocean Science Consulting Limited. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on marine environmental issues, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities- Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and analyze data from various sources, including MMO/PAM/environmental surveys and ornithology, to inform our clients' decision-making processes.
- Environmental Advice: Provide expert advice to clients on mitigation strategies for offshore industries, including data preparation, entry, and database maintenance.
- Reporting and Communication: Generate high-quality reports and presentations, including figures and maps, to communicate complex scientific information to clients and stakeholders.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and manage offshore equipment, including ROVs, to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Research and Development: Conduct research and assimilate information on various topics to support commercial literature reviews and business development initiatives.
- Education: A degree (minimum 2:1) in a relevant scientific discipline, such as marine biology, ecology, or oceanography.
- Experience: Prior MMO/PAM/environmental survey work experience (minimum of 6 months field experience) and offshore survival certifications (BOISET/GWO/O&G medical).
- Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office programs, and ability to lift 20 kg.
- Commercial Awareness: A genuine interest in the business and industry, and the ability to handle sensitive information.
- Specialized Knowledge: JNCC-approved MMO, experience with equipment deployment, and knowledge of environmental surveys (e.g., water and sediment sampling).
- Technical Skills: Creation of maps in QGIS, statistical modeling and analysis of biological datasets in R, and scientific literature reviews.
- Industry Knowledge: Prior knowledge or experience of marine fauna taxonomic identification and ornithological surveys (ESAS certification is a significant advantage).
