About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Research Assistant to join our team at Ocean Science Consulting Limited. As a Research Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting our scientific research and environmental monitoring activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of peer-reviewed papers to scientific journals;
  • Handle peer-reviewer comments from journals;
  • Conduct first-pass peer-reviewing of other workers' scientific papers;
  • Perform scientific literature reviews;
  • Prepare and manage datasets;
  • Develop and maintain databases;
  • Conduct statistical analyses of biological datasets;
  • Perform statistical modeling using GAM and GLM techniques;
  • Analyze Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) footage;
  • Analyze SONAR/RADAR/InfraRed footage;
  • Generate figures for presentations, reports, and publications;
  • Develop maps using QGIS;
  • Organize research sourced from journals and repositories;
  • Enter publications into referencing software;
  • Generate content for company publications and websites;
Requirements
  • Legally permitted to work in the UK prior to employment;
  • Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. environmental science/marine biology);
  • Offshore fieldwork experience;
  • Excellent written, numerical, and verbal-communication skills;
  • High level knowledge of Microsoft products;
  • Able to work on own initiative and prioritize effectively;
  • Genuine interest in the business and industry;
  • Commercially aware and able to handle sensitive information;
Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience of environmental surveys;
  • Published previously in a peer-reviewed journal;
  • Stock control and testing of PAM and other oceanographical equipment;
  • Potentially working offshore as MMO & PAM Operator;
  • Day-to-day administration;
  • MMO, and PAM training;
  • Offshore survival certifications;
  • Full, clean UK drivers' licence;
