About the Role

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and passionate Perioperative Education Specialist to join our Surgical Theatre team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate education within the perioperative complex.
  • Represent the workforce in an educational capacity, working with internal and external partners.
  • Participate in clinical supervision programmes and teach, facilitate, and mentor staff groups.
  • Provide high-level specialist clinical leadership and support the training and development programme.
  • Maximise the use of clinical and educational resources, including budget management.
  • Line management responsibilities.
Main Duties
  • Development, implement, and evaluate education within the perioperative complex.
  • Represent the workforce in an educational capacity, working with internal and external partners.
  • Participate in clinical supervision programmes and teach, facilitate, and mentor staff groups.
  • Provide high-level specialist clinical leadership and support the training and development programme.
  • Maximise the use of clinical and educational resources, including budget management.
  • Line management responsibilities.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain own professional status and ensure that the NMC or HCPC requirements for registration are met and adhered to.
  • Ensure all relevant nursing policies, procedures, and guidelines are adhered to.
  • Maintain a safe environment for yourself and others, taking reasonable care to avoid injury.
  • Co-operate with the Trust to meet statutory requirements.
  • Provide statements regarding untoward incidents, as requested by the Senior Nurse.
  • Ensure all staff attend Trust mandatory training annually.
Person Specification
  • Qualifications:
    • Registered with NMC or HCPC.
    • BSc in Nursing/Operating Department Practice.
    • Mentorship/Clinical Supervision and Assessing Qualification.
    • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Desirable:
    • Educated or working towards masters or postgraduate level.
    • Teaching Qualification.
    • Coaching course.
  • Experience:
    • Significant experience in clinical practice in an acute setting.
    • Proven ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders and in a multi-disciplinary environment.
    • Change management experience related to the planning and delivery of educational activities.
    • Training and experience in risk management sufficient to understand potential risks and solutions from an education perspective.
  • Skills:
    • Passionate about education as a tool to improve the quality of care and support professional practice.
    • Excellent communicator - both orally and in writing.
    • Confidence and self-motivation.
    • Credible in a multi-disciplinary environment.
    • Resilient, committed to practice development and education.
    • Diplomatic and innovative.
    • Energetic and motivated for the role.
  • Knowledge:
    • Extensive perioperative knowledge.
    • Current evidence of managing clinical supervision and assessments in theatre.
    • Able to articulate trainees/ODP student pathways.
