Job Overview

Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking skilled Phlebotomists dedicated to providing exceptional patient-centered care within our clinical settings. The primary responsibility involves obtaining blood specimens from patients in various environments, including inpatient wards and outpatient facilities. Additional duties may be assigned to support the phlebotomy and outpatient services.

Working Hours

The standard operating hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, seven days a week. Candidates must exhibit flexibility in their schedules to accommodate all phlebotomy sessions, which are organized on a rotating basis. Positions are available for either 35 or 20 hours per week, requiring weekend and bank holiday shifts.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess a recognized certification in venepuncture and demonstrate relevant experience in both pediatric and adult phlebotomy. Familiarity with Point of Care Testing (POCT) and Oral Glucose Tolerance Testing (OGTT) is also essential.

Main Responsibilities

The role entails:

  • Collecting blood samples for laboratory analysis from patients in various clinical settings.
  • Performing venepuncture as directed by authorized healthcare professionals.
  • Adhering to the Quality Management Process within the Pathology Service to ensure high-quality service delivery.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum educational qualifications include GCSE or equivalent in literacy and numeracy.
  • Demonstrated phlebotomy competency and experience in clinical settings.
  • Strong customer service skills and experience working with the public.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in pediatric phlebotomy and Point of Care Testing.
