Position Overview
Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking dedicated Phlebotomists who can provide exceptional patient-centered care across various clinical settings. The primary responsibility involves obtaining blood specimens from patients in both inpatient and outpatient environments, including specialized units and community health centers. Additional responsibilities may include supporting the phlebotomy service and other outpatient functions as required.
The standard operating hours are from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, seven days a week. Candidates must demonstrate flexibility in their work schedules to accommodate all phlebotomy sessions, which are organized on a rotating basis. This position offers either 35 or 20 hours of work per week, requiring availability for two weekends every four weeks and a minimum of two public holidays annually.
A recognized qualification in venepuncture is essential, along with relevant experience in both pediatric and adult phlebotomy. Familiarity with Point of Care Testing (POCT) or Oral Glucose Tolerance Testing (OGTT) is also required.
This role is subject to the successful completion of a six-month probationary period.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect blood samples for laboratory testing from both pediatric and adult patients in various clinical environments, including outpatient clinics and wards.
- Perform venepuncture as requested by authorized healthcare professionals.
- Adhere to the Quality Management Process established within the Pathology Service to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care that meets the needs of all users and contributes to ongoing accreditation with UKAS (CPA UK).

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
- Essential: Minimum of GCSE or equivalent qualifications in literacy and numeracy.
Experience
- Essential: Proven competency in phlebotomy and previous experience in ward and outpatient settings.
- Desirable: Experience with pediatric patients and Point of Care Testing.
Skills and Abilities
- Essential: Strong command of spoken and written English, with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Desirable: Proficiency in IT and the ability to work effectively within a diverse team.
Knowledge
