Job Summary

The NHS Blood and Transplant is a vital part of the NHS, operating a network of centres across England to collect and process blood donations. As a Blood Production Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective processing of blood components and products for patients.

Main Responsibilities

  • Process and issue blood donations to hospitals, working closely with your supervisor and team members.
  • Support and train less experienced staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge.
  • Undertake precise and repetitive manipulation of equipment and blood samples/donations, performing routine tasks on a regular basis.
  • Handle blood bags and a range of equipment, working variable hours and days, including weekends and bank holidays.
  • Manually handle equipment weighing up to 13 kgs, with or without mechanical aids, with appropriate training.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience of working in a pharmaceutical, manufacturing or laboratory environment would be an advantage.
  • Experience of working with Information Technology, such as Microsoft Office.
  • Experience of working within a regulated working environment and/or to strict documented procedures would be an advantage.

Qualifications and Training

  • A Level or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification, or extensive experience working in a logistics/supply chain environment.
  • Minimum of GCSE grade C or above, including English and Maths, or equivalent qualification, such as NVQ Level 2, BTEC Level 2.
  • Willingness to undertake further training and development.
