Position Overview

The UK Exports Strategy Directorate (UKES) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the national exporting capabilities and providing essential support to businesses. This is achieved by identifying innovative and efficient methods for the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their export endeavors.

The Stakeholder and Intelligence team, where this position is situated, concentrates on significant national matters that particularly affect SMEs, whether they are currently exporting or are considering entering the export market.

Within DBT, numerous existing intelligence-gathering frameworks are in place. The individual in this role will be tasked with navigating these frameworks, making informed decisions on how to extract the most valuable insights from these channels to guide teams across Domestic and International Markets and Exports (DIME) regarding critical issues impacting SMEs.

This role will also necessitate gathering intelligence from external stakeholders, including SMEs, Business Representative Organizations (BROs), think tanks, academic institutions, and other relevant entities.

This is an exciting opportunity to join UKES and shape this new role to inform the department’s policy formulation and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the team to consolidate information from both internal and external sources, ensuring that all pertinent and beneficial data is collected, analyzed, and reviewed for dissemination to the broader UKES team and beyond.

• Develop and implement a structured approach to intelligence gathering that complements existing DBT channels, with a focus on issues affecting SMEs in their export activities.

• Utilize gathered intelligence to establish clear insights that will inform DBT’s strategies for identifying optimal policies and services to assist exporters.

• Produce outputs that enable DBT officials to comprehend leading indicators related to the business environment and the services required to enhance export growth.
