Position Overview

The UK Exports Strategy Directorate (UKES) plays a pivotal role in enhancing the national exporting capabilities and providing essential support to businesses. This is achieved by identifying innovative and efficient methods through which the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) can assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their exporting endeavors.

This role is situated within the Stakeholder and Intelligence team, which concentrates on significant national challenges particularly affecting SMEs that are currently exporting or are interested in beginning to export.

The successful candidate will be tasked with navigating existing intelligence-gathering frameworks within DBT, making informed decisions on how to extract the most valuable insights from these channels. This information will be crucial for informing teams across Domestic and International Markets and Exports (DIME) regarding key issues impacting SMEs.

Additionally, the role will involve gathering intelligence from external stakeholders, including SMEs, Business Representative Organizations (BROs), think tanks, and academic institutions.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to UKES and shape this new position to support the department’s policy formulation and operational initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Collaborate with team members to consolidate information from both internal and external sources, ensuring all pertinent data is collected, analyzed, and reviewed for dissemination to the broader UKES team and beyond.

2. Develop and implement a structured approach to intelligence gathering that complements existing DBT frameworks, with a focus on issues that affect SMEs in exporting.

3. Utilize gathered intelligence to create clear insights that will guide DBT’s strategies in identifying optimal policies and services for exporters.

4. Produce outputs that enable DBT officials to grasp leading indicators related to the business landscape and the necessary services to enhance export growth.
