About Barnardo's Scotland Adoption Service

With over four decades of dedicated service, Barnardo's Scotland Adoption Service is a leading provider recognized throughout the UK. We deliver a comprehensive range of support to individuals impacted by adoption and permanent care, collaborating with 14 local authorities across Scotland. Our mission is to recruit and nurture adoptive families, ensuring that many children find stable and loving homes.

Core Objectives

  • To identify, evaluate, and approve a diverse array of adoptive families tailored to the unique needs of children awaiting adoption.
  • To meticulously align the requirements of children with the capabilities of prospective adopters.
  • To guarantee that all adopters receive essential training, guidance, and the backing of a qualified supervising social worker.
  • To offer extensive support services to local authorities that partner with us.
  • To facilitate search and reunion services for individuals affected by adoption.
  • To engage directly with adoptive families requiring therapeutic support to foster and maintain healthy family dynamics.
  • To actively disseminate our expertise and insights regarding adoption within the broader adoption community.
  • To contribute at a national level to the advocacy of adoption and influence policy and strategic development, including engagement with governmental bodies.
  • To uphold a commitment to the participation of children, young people, and those impacted by adoption, fostering continuous improvement.
