Position Overview
Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust (PCFT) is pleased to announce an opportunity for a full-time Trainee Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. This role is part of the Post Graduate Diploma program in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, focusing on serious mental health challenges such as psychosis and bipolar disorder, as well as personality disorders. We particularly welcome applications from individuals who possess a keen interest and relevant experience in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
The successful candidate will be integrated into the adult community mental health services, contributing to the Secondary Care Psychological Service and the Community Mental Health Team. The role involves delivering psychological interventions while acquiring new skills through a structured training program. Upon fulfilling the course requirements and achieving provisional accreditation with the BABCP, the individual will transition into a full-time qualified band 7 CBT Therapist position within the Trust.
Key Responsibilities
This is a transitional and educational role, offered on a fixed-term basis. Following the completion of course requirements and provisional accreditation with the BABCP, the candidate will advance to a full-time qualified band 7 CBT Therapist role. The responsibilities include:
- Formulating psychological assessments for individual clients to inform their care needs.
- Collaboratively setting recovery goals with clients.
- Assessing the appropriateness of various psychological interventions, both group and individual, based on client evaluations.
- Planning, implementing, and reviewing psychological interventions tailored to specific clients.
- With client consent, recording clinical sessions for supervision and course assignments.
- Identifying areas for improvement within the psychological therapy program and communicating these to supervisory staff.
- Working with a diverse client population, ensuring cultural sensitivity and adherence to equal opportunity principles.

Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
Essential:
- A recognized qualification at the graduate level in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy, or a related psychological therapy field.
- Alternatively, evidence of meeting the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSA) criteria set by the BABCP, along with two years of post-qualification experience for Psychological Well-being Practitioners.
Desirable:
- Additional training in CBT or other psychological therapies.
- Extensive training in CBT or psychological approaches through formal courses.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
- Demonstrable post-qualification experience in a relevant profession.
- Experience working in mental health services in a qualified capacity.
- Significant experience with adults facing severe and complex mental health issues, including psychosis and personality disorders.
- Experience collaborating within a mental health multidisciplinary team.
- Experience in risk assessment and management.
- A solid understanding of psychosis and personality disorders.
- A positive attitude towards working with clients experiencing personality disorders or psychosis.
- Ability to manage a personal caseload effectively.
- High standards in written communication.
Desirable:
- Experience in a psychosocial context with clients facing complex mental health challenges.
- Understanding of the importance of evidence-based psychological therapies.
- Lived experience of mental health issues.
Skills & Abilities

- Capability to complete the academic components of the course.

- Computer literacy.
