Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics to join our team at University Hospitals Birmingham. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Trauma and Orthopaedics, with a particular interest in complex knee problems.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior post-CCT trainee to develop their skills in the management of various knee conditions, including acute trauma and elective reconstruction. The Fellow will work closely with our multidisciplinary team, including consultants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

The role involves independent operating lists, with the Fellow expected to undertake complex procedures, including joint replacement, soft tissue operations, and fracture fixation. The Fellow will also be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the team's clinical inpatient load, including pre-operative planning and post-operative care.

Main Duties and Tasks

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years' full-time post-graduate training in Trauma and Orthopaedics, with experience in acute on-call commitments. They will also have a strong understanding of the principles of Trauma and Orthopaedics, including the management of complex knee problems.

The Fellow will be expected to work independently, with minimal supervision, and will be responsible for making decisions regarding patient care. They will also be expected to contribute to the development of the team's clinical practice and to participate in quality improvement initiatives.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have a Medical Degree from a recognised University, with MRCS or equivalent qualification. They will also have ATLS or European Trauma Course qualification and a minimum of 3 years' full-time post-graduate training in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

They will have experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics, with a strong understanding of the principles of the specialty, including the management of complex knee problems. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
