About the Role

GSL Education is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to make a positive impact on students' lives by joining an Ofsted-rated 'Good' Secondary School in the UK, starting as soon as possible.

About the School

The school is a specialist institution for secondary-aged students with a range of learning disabilities and additional needs. The school's comprehensive curriculum provides teachers with a list of options for accessible and relevant topics to help students develop skills relevant to their identified Educational, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) broad areas of need.

The school's mission is to enhance the educational, social, and emotional development of our students, ensuring they achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Under the expert guidance and supervision of a certified teacher, conduct learning activities differentiating and tailoring curricula to meet the needs of assigned students with special needs.
  • In collaboration with the teacher, create and assess specialized learning activities, and if needed, prepare reports and records.
  • Work with students on care or therapy plans that are created and overseen by a care specialist or therapist.
  • Encourage students to collaborate and communicate with one another, and involve every student in activities.
  • Participate in creating, organizing, and carrying out students' individual development plans which may include scheduling, attending, and contributing to evaluations.
  • As students are learning, keep an eye on their behavior and conduct and take action to address any complex, hard, or challenging issues.
Requirements
  • Must hold the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or SEN support (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification).
  • Training in behavior management and de-escalation techniques is desirable.
  • Experience working with children who have a variety of disabilities and/or learning difficulties, or an eagerness to go through training.
  • Be aware of and knowledgeable about different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD, and SEMH.
  • Confident in the delivery of pre-planned lessons and interventions.
  • Hold a Child-only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
