Special Needs Teaching Assistant Opportunity

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join an exceptional Secondary School in York, North Yorkshire.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work under the guidance of a certified teacher to deliver tailored learning activities for students with special needs.
  • Collaborate with the teacher to create and assess specialized learning activities, and prepare reports and records as needed.
  • Support students in implementing care or therapy plans created and overseen by a care specialist or therapist.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, encouraging students to work together and communicate effectively.
  • Participate in creating, organizing, and implementing individual development plans, including scheduling and contributing to evaluations.
  • Monitor students' behavior and conduct, addressing any complex or challenging issues that arise.
Requirements:
  • Right to Work in the UK.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or SEN support (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification).
  • Training in behavior management and de-escalation techniques is desirable.
  • Experience working with children with various disabilities and/or learning difficulties, or a willingness to undergo training.
  • Knowledge of additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD, and SEMH.
  • Confidence in delivering pre-planned lessons and interventions.
  • Child-only DBS registered to the update service or willingness to apply through GSL Education.

Please note that this role requires a strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
