About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant to make a positive impact on students' lives by joining an Ofsted-rated 'Good' Secondary School in York, North Yorkshire.

The successful candidate will work under the expert guidance and supervision of a certified teacher, conducting learning activities that differentiate and tailor curricula to meet the needs of assigned students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Under the guidance of a certified teacher, conduct learning activities that cater to the needs of students with special needs.
  • Collaborate with the teacher to create and assess specialized learning activities, and prepare reports and records as needed.
  • Work with students on care or therapy plans created and overseen by a care specialist or therapist.
  • Encourage students to collaborate and communicate with one another, and involve every student in activities.
  • Participate in creating, organizing, and carrying out students' individual development plans, which may include scheduling, attending, and contributing to evaluations.
  • Monitor students' behavior and conduct, and take action to address any complex, challenging issues.
Requirements
  • Must hold the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or SEN support (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification).
  • Training in behavior management and de-escalation techniques is desirable.
  • Experience working with children who have a variety of disabilities and/or learning difficulties, or an eagerness to undergo training.
  • Knowledge of different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD, and SEMH.
  • Confident in delivering pre-planned lessons and interventions.
  • Hold a Child-only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
