About the Team

The Business, Trade and Culture Team is a collaborative group with a diverse and significant scope, tasked with overseeing financial allocations and strategic initiatives for the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS). The team fosters a strong and supportive culture, providing the successful candidate with opportunities to establish connections across various operational areas. The Business and Trade Spending and Strategy branch engages with the Treasury on a wide array of governmental business and trade policy matters, including assistance for exporters, encouraging inward investment, and managing the Post Office.

About the Role

This position presents an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to engage with a diverse and politically significant array of issues, contributing to the strategic planning for DBT financial allocations. You will lead the team's efforts to assist DBT in delivering comprehensive and equitable compensation to postmasters efficiently. Regular collaboration with senior officials from DBT, Treasury ministers, No.10, and Special Advisers will be a key aspect of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the formulation of strategies for business and trade financial allocations and establishing suitable funding frameworks for the department during the Spending Review.
  • Developing expertise to facilitate the achievement of ministerial objectives for the department, particularly in leading initiatives to ensure DBT provides fair financial restitution to those affected by the Post Office Horizon IT scandal.
  • Reviewing DBT's daily financial activities to confirm that all expenditures align with governmental priorities and yield value-for-money results.
  • Collaborating with the DBT spending team, EGU, and broader HMT to support integrated business and trade initiatives for fiscal events.

This role can be tailored to fit the individual’s specific interests, career aspirations, and requirements for flexible working arrangements. Responsibilities may evolve over time in accordance with team and departmental priorities.
