About the Team

The Business, Trade and Culture Team is a collaborative group with a diverse and significant mandate, overseeing financial allocations and strategic initiatives for the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS). The team fosters a supportive environment that enables the successful candidate to cultivate connections across various sectors. The Business and Trade Spending and Strategy branch engages with the Treasury on a wide array of governmental business and trade policy matters, including assistance for exporters, encouraging inward investment, and managing the Post Office.

About the Role

This position presents an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to engage with a range of crucial and politically significant issues, contributing to the establishment of the strategic framework for DBT financial allocations. You will lead the team’s efforts to assist DBT in delivering comprehensive and equitable compensation to postmasters efficiently. Regular collaboration with senior officials from DBT, Treasury ministers, No.10, and Special Advisers will be integral to this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating the formulation of strategies for business and trade expenditures and determining suitable funding arrangements for the department during the Spending Review.
  • Developing expertise to aid in the realization of ministerial objectives for the department, particularly in spearheading initiatives to ensure full and fair financial restitution for those affected by the Post Office Horizon IT scandal.
  • Evaluating DBT's daily financial activities to confirm that all expenditures align with governmental priorities and yield value-for-money results.
  • Collaborating across the DBT spending team, EGU, and broader HMT to support integrated business and trade initiatives for fiscal events.

This role offers flexibility to tailor responsibilities to individual interests, career aspirations, and requirements regarding work hours or flexible arrangements. Responsibilities will also adapt over time in accordance with team and departmental priorities.
