About the Team

The Business, Trade and Culture Team is a collaborative group with a diverse and significant mandate, overseeing expenditure and strategic initiatives for the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and the Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS). The team fosters a strong and supportive culture, providing the successful candidate with opportunities to establish connections across various sectors. The Business and Trade Spending and Strategy branch engages with the Treasury on a wide array of governmental business and trade policy matters, including support for exporters, encouragement of inward investment, and oversight of the Post Office.

About the Role

This position presents an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to engage with a diverse and politically significant array of issues, contributing to the strategic direction of DBT expenditure. The role involves leading efforts to assist DBT in delivering comprehensive and equitable compensation to postmasters efficiently. Regular collaboration with senior officials from DBT, Treasury ministers, No.10, and Special Advisers will be integral to this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the formulation of strategies for business and trade expenditure and establishing suitable funding arrangements for the department during the Spending Review.
  • Developing expertise to facilitate the achievement of ministerial objectives for the department, particularly in leading initiatives to ensure full and fair financial restitution for victims of the Post Office Horizon IT scandal.
  • Evaluating DBT's daily expenditures to guarantee alignment with governmental priorities and to ensure value-for-money outcomes.
  • Collaborating with the DBT spending team, EGU, and broader HMT to support integrated business and trade initiatives for fiscal events.

This role offers flexibility to adapt responsibilities to the individual’s interests, career aspirations, and preferences regarding work hours or flexible arrangements. Responsibilities may evolve over time in response to team and departmental priorities.
