The Growth, Productivity, and Infrastructure team is integral to HM Treasury's economic ministry operations. We are responsible for formulating strategies and coordinating growth policies across the department, while also leading significant policy areas focused on competition, migration, and infrastructure.

Role Overview

Our Growth Economics Branch is pivotal in providing economic insights that guide policy formulation on productivity across the government. We are looking for an Economic Policy Consultant to join our team on a fixed-term basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth productivity analyses, identifying critical projects, and engaging in 4-8 week analytical initiatives related to growth, which may involve empirical research and reviewing economic literature.
  • Provide expert advice on the formulation of supply-side policies.
  • Establish connections with academic institutions and external experts to ensure the department remains updated on the latest productivity research.
  • Oversee and mentor two Senior Economic Officers, managing their projects in collaboration with the branch head and facilitating their professional development.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Economics or equivalent experience in economic policy development. You should excel in communicating complex analyses to diverse audiences with the aim of influencing policy decisions. Building effective partnerships and relationships to achieve positive outcomes is essential.
