Position Overview
Airedale NHS Foundation Trust is a pioneering healthcare organization dedicated to delivering exceptional pathology services through collaboration and innovation. We are currently seeking to recruit Laboratory Support Technicians at a Band 2 level within our Histopathology Department.
The Histopathology Department is accredited under ISO15189:2012 and serves as a recognized training facility for HCPC and IBMS.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be responsible for a variety of essential tasks, including:
- Receiving and processing pathological specimens
- Assisting in the dissection of tissue samples
- Data entry and management
- Organizing and maintaining block and slide archives
- Retrieving and filing blocks and slides as required
- Ensuring the upkeep of laboratory equipment and machinery
Additionally, the role involves rotating through different areas of the laboratory, engaging with both Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and participating in various departmental activities.

Job Requirements
Qualifications
Essential:
- GCSE in Science, English, or an equivalent qualification
Knowledge
Essential:
- Understanding of the NHS Constitution and the operational framework of the NHS
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to manage priorities and work effectively under pressure
Desirable:
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations
- Knowledge of COSHH
- Theoretical understanding of histology
Experience
Essential:
- No prior experience is necessary as comprehensive in-house training will be provided
Desirable:
- Experience in adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Previous laboratory experience
Other Requirements
Essential:
- Willingness to participate in shift work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Flexibility in working hours to meet service demands
