Position Overview

We are seeking applications from seasoned HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists for a progressive role transitioning from Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist to Band 7 Lead Biomedical Scientist in Blood Services. Candidates should possess a minimum of 3 years' experience in Blood Services. The selected individual will be expected to demonstrate motivation and commitment to undertake and successfully complete the Higher Specialist Portfolio in Blood Services course, which will be financially supported as part of this position. Comprehensive support will be provided throughout the developmental program, including designated study leave to achieve the necessary qualifications and competencies.

The successful candidate will assume a senior position within the management of the department, ensuring the maintenance of the high standards already established. Responsibilities will include setting direction and supervising staff to guarantee that routine technical and quality operations within the Blood Services department are executed and monitored effectively. Candidates should exhibit enthusiasm, strong motivation, and innovative thinking, complemented by excellent organizational and practical skills, as well as a solid scientific understanding of BSQR and BCSH guidelines. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with leadership capabilities to foster individual and team collaboration, are essential. These attributes align with the Trust's core values.

Key Responsibilities

As part of a skilled team of Biomedical Scientists within the Haematology and Blood Services department, the post holder will contribute to delivering a high-quality pathology service. Specific departmental duties will be outlined in the accompanying documentation.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent qualification
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
  • IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology/Blood Services or equivalent experience demonstrating work at a comparable level

Desirable:

  • Membership in a professional organization such as IBMS.

Experience

Essential:

  • Significant experience and knowledge in the specific discipline
  • Experience working in a Haematology/Blood Services laboratory
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
  • Familiarity with Pathology IT systems
  • Experience with Pathology Quality Management Systems

Desirable:

  • Experience in NHS Clinical Haematology/Blood Services
