Position Overview

The Mobility Services division at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals through specialized support in wheelchair services, orthotics, and related therapies.

This role is essential in delivering comprehensive support to both adult and pediatric clients across various healthcare environments, including outpatient and community settings. The Mobility Support Assistant will engage in home visits primarily for wheelchair service users and will collaborate with a network of professionals to ensure optimal service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

The Mobility Support Assistant will:

  • Manage a designated caseload as assigned by clinical staff.
  • Conduct basic assessments and implement interventions relevant to the assigned caseload.
  • Participate in the evaluation of treatment programs and monitor patient progress, making necessary adjustments in consultation with supervising therapists.
  • Assist therapists with more complex cases as needed.
  • Collaborate with team members to maintain effective team operations.
  • Communicate with technicians, manufacturers, and suppliers as required.
  • Handle administrative tasks related to personal wheelchair budgets.
  • Engage with patients, caregivers, and the multidisciplinary team to foster a collaborative approach to care.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives.
  • Provide support to colleagues and students.
  • Adapt work practices to meet the needs of patients and the service.
  • Conduct assessments and administrative tasks to facilitate personal wheelchair budgets.

In fulfilling these responsibilities, the Mobility Support Assistant will adhere to the principles outlined in the NHS Constitution and the Trust's commitment to quality care.

About the Role

Essential Qualifications:

  • Good general education, including GCSEs in English and Mathematics.
  • Relevant Level III qualification in Health and Social Care or equivalent.

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience in healthcare, social care, or educational settings.
  • Experience working with individuals with diverse health needs.
  • Experience in delivering therapeutic interventions.
  • Teamwork experience.
  • Proficiency in IT applications.
  • Experience in community-based roles.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of the impact of illness and disability on functionality.
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation practices.
  • Familiarity with therapy interventions.
  • Awareness of the roles of various professionals and the importance of collaborative working.
  • Ability to empower individuals to achieve their health and well-being goals.
  • Strong communication skills, including active listening and empathy.
  • Capacity to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Analytical and reflective thinking skills.
