Job Overview
The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Teaching Trust is offering a remarkable opportunity to become a part of our Medicines Optimisation team as a Pharmacy Assistant Specialist. In this role, you will collaborate closely with a clinical Pharmacy team situated on the wards, ensuring that our patients receive their necessary medications in a safe and effective manner.
The ideal candidate will possess an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services or an equivalent certification recognized by the GPHC. Experience in a pharmacy setting, whether in a community or hospital environment, is essential. We seek individuals who are enthusiastic, self-driven, and dedicated to patient care. Exceptional attention to detail, the ability to prioritize tasks, and strong organizational and communication skills are crucial for success in this position.
Our Pharmacy department is committed to providing a progressive service, making it a fulfilling workplace. We pride ourselves on our supportive team environment, which will assist the successful candidate in acclimating to their new role and advancing their professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
As a vital member of the Pharmacy Medicines Optimisation team, your responsibilities will include:
- Engaging with patients to evaluate the safety and suitability of any personal medications they may have brought, documenting this on the electronic prescribing system.
- Ensuring that patients have a sufficient supply of medications available during their hospital stay to prevent missed doses by utilizing the electronic prescribing system for orders.
- Collaborating with pharmacy and ward staff at all levels to facilitate the efficient operation of the service.
- Dispensing prescriptions for patients upon discharge, aiding in timely release, and providing counseling on new medications.
- Transferring medications between wards as necessary.
- Assisting nursing staff with medication orders and inquiries.
- Contributing to the training and development of Pharmacy Support Workers, Trainee Technicians, Pharmacy Technicians, and Trainee and Foundation Pharmacists.
The Pharmacy Department operates a 7-day service throughout the year, and participation in weekend and Bank Holiday rotas is expected. The role may also involve cross-site responsibilities and late-night shifts.
