The position of 8a Clinical Psychologist within the Stroke Service is available, focusing on Sandwell and surrounding regions.
Are you a dedicated and empathetic Psychologist who values diversity and inclusion? This role within our Physical Health Psychology service in the Stroke Services sector aims to support individuals in coping with and adjusting to the challenges posed by physical health issues, ultimately enhancing their mental health and overall wellbeing.
An exceptional opportunity exists for a Clinical Psychologist to contribute to the Stroke Services. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring that psychological insights are integrated throughout the service. You will deliver specialized clinical support to clients referred to the service and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams addressing this patient demographic.
The Physical Health Psychology Service comprises a team of psychologists, therapists, and counselors dedicated to helping individuals adapt to and devise innovative solutions for physical health challenges. The service operates across three geographical areas, and this role will be based at a designated facility.

This position may consider candidates for a band 7-8a developmental role.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct highly specialized psychological assessments for clients facing complex and contentious conditions, utilizing a variety of data sources, including neuropsychological evaluations.
- Identify and address potential risks to clients, including harm, abuse, or neglect, and take appropriate actions to safeguard clients, particularly in relation to child safeguarding concerns.
- Perform risk assessments and management for individual clients, providing expert advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and management.
- Develop plans for specialized psychological therapy and management of clients' mental health conditions based on evidence-based practices.
- Implement a range of advanced psychological therapies for clients, adjusting therapeutic approaches as necessary.
- Conduct thorough evaluations and make informed decisions regarding treatment options.

Job Responsibilities
- Accountable for delivering highly specialized psychological care to clients with complex mental health conditions or learning disabilities, including challenging behaviors.
- Demonstrate compassion in addressing the needs of clients, their families, and caregivers.
- Promote a positive image of individuals with mental health issues or learning disabilities.
- Enhance the reputation of the service and the wider Trust.
- In line with the post's banding and service context, exercise supervisory responsibilities for other psychological therapists, lead multi-disciplinary training, and contribute to service evaluation and research.
- Ensure that psychological perspectives are integrated into service redesign and cultural transformation efforts.
Essential Qualifications
- Post-graduate doctoral training in applied Psychology accredited by the BPS, covering models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, and various psychological therapies.
- Post-doctoral training in specialized areas of psychological practice.
- HCPC registration as an Applied Psychologist with Chartered Status.
- Experience in clinical supervision and mentoring doctoral trainees.
- Registration with BPS.
- Experience working as a qualified applied psychologist across diverse client groups and clinical settings.
Desirable Qualifications
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Advanced knowledge and skills in managing difficult-to-treat populations, including dual diagnoses and severe behavioral challenges.
