We are seeking a dedicated 8a Clinical Psychologist to enhance our Stroke Service, focusing on Sandwell and surrounding regions.

As a valued member of our Physical Health Psychology service, you will play a crucial role in supporting individuals as they navigate the challenges posed by physical health issues, aiming to enhance their mental health and overall wellbeing.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the Stroke Services by integrating psychological insights into patient care. You will provide specialized clinical support to clients referred to the service and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams dedicated to this patient demographic.

The Physical Health Psychology Service comprises a skilled team of psychologists, therapists, and counselors committed to helping individuals adapt to and creatively address their physical health challenges. Our service operates across multiple geographical areas, and this role will be stationed at a designated facility.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments for clients facing complex and challenging conditions, utilizing various data sources, including neuropsychological evaluations.
  • Identify and report any potential risks to client safety, including signs of harm or neglect, and take appropriate measures to safeguard clients.
  • Perform risk assessments and management strategies for individual clients, providing expert advice to other professionals regarding psychological aspects of risk.
  • Develop tailored psychological therapy plans based on sound theoretical frameworks and evidence-based practices, collaborating with clients and their families to implement these plans.
  • Deliver a range of specialized psychological therapies to individuals, families, and groups, adapting approaches as necessary.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations and make informed decisions regarding treatment options.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accountability for your professional practice in delivering specialized psychological care to clients with complex mental health conditions or learning disabilities.
  • Exhibit compassion in addressing the needs of clients, their families, and caregivers.
  • Promote a positive image of individuals with mental health challenges or learning disabilities.
  • Contribute to the positive representation of the service and the broader Trust.
  • In accordance with the role's banding, provide leadership in training, service development, and research initiatives.
  • Ensure that psychological perspectives inform service redesign and cultural transformation.

Essential Qualifications

  • Doctoral-level training in applied psychology, accredited by the BPS, covering psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, and various psychological therapies.
  • Post-doctoral training in specialized areas of psychological practice.
  • HCPC registration as an Applied Psychologist with Chartered Status.
  • Experience in clinical supervision and mentoring doctoral trainees.
  • Registration with BPS.
  • Demonstrated experience as a qualified applied psychologist across diverse client groups and care settings.

  • Advanced knowledge and skills in managing complex cases, including dual diagnoses and challenging behaviors.
