Design Engineer – Electric Powertrain

Forseven, a pioneering company, is seeking a Design Engineer – Electric Powertrain to join our innovative Vehicle Electrification Team. This role will report to the Engineering Manager – Powertrain Design and operate in a hybrid capacity out of our offices in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.

This position will focus on the design and integration of components and systems for high voltage powertrain systems into high volume automotive production programmes. The role may also work on R&D and development projects, while mentoring and developing junior colleagues within the group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electric powertrain systems for battery electric vehicles, including thermal management systems, EDU, transmission and driveline integration, and associated components.
  • Deliver design concepts and agreed content to meet the needs of the Vehicle Line Manager for Vehicle Programme Requirements.
  • Package and integrate sourced in components.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to optimize powertrain performance, efficiency, and thermal management.
  • Work with the validation team to specify system-level testing, validation, and debugging to ensure powertrain performance meets design specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and brainstorming sessions to drive innovation and continuous improvement in powertrain design.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in electric vehicle technology, industry trends, and best practices to inform design decisions and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure the successful production launch of powertrain components and systems.
  • Create and/or contribute to the development of technical documentation, specifications, and standards related to powertrain design and integration.
  • Support ongoing vehicle testing, validation, and calibration activities, including field testing and prototype evaluations.
  • Create and/or contribute to DFMEAs.
  • Manage concerns using our fault management system.

About You:

  • Experience of Electric Powertrains (Battery to Driveshaft) or similar discipline within an automotive engineering environment.
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficient in CAD Software packages, Catia V5/V6 preferred.
  • Exposure and familiarity with simulation tools such as FEA, 1D, etc.
  • Understanding of electric powertrain architectures and underlying principles and technologies, including thermal management, HV harnessing, electrical safety systems, serviceability, and control strategies.
  • Experience of system/component delivery within an APQP, six sigma, or similar framework (FMEA, DVP, quality planning, PPAP, etc.) and full product lifecycle activities.
  • An understanding of the V-Cycle and its application in an automotive environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to engineering challenges.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with cross-functional teams.
