Job Overview

We are seeking a Director of Regulatory Affairs to join our Public Policy division. This pivotal role is centered on overseeing and advancing the regulatory policy initiatives of the BBC, under the guidance of the Controller of Regulation. This position offers a chance to shape regulatory policy with significant influence on high-level decision-making processes.

Our team acts as the steward of the BBC's comprehension of its regulatory and public policy landscape. We manage relationships with essential external stakeholders and spearhead the formulation of public policy stances. The Policy division is integral to BBC Group Corporate Affairs, playing a crucial role in supporting key projects and shaping the BBC's strategies to safeguard its interests amidst rapid technological and regulatory changes.

Key Responsibilities

As the Chief of Compliance and Regulation , reporting directly to the Controller of Regulation, you will play a vital role in steering the BBC's regulatory policy efforts. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing policy analysis and development, ensuring quality and direction.
  • Advocating for the BBC through engagement with Ofcom and other regulatory entities.
  • Ensuring adherence to the BBC's regulatory framework.
  • Contributing to potential modifications in the regulatory landscape.
  • Drafting or supervising the creation of regulatory responses and submissions.
  • Participating in significant projects and monitoring trends in communications sector regulation.

Are You the Ideal Candidate?

The successful candidate will possess extensive experience in a senior regulatory, policy, or strategic capacity, ideally within a regulatory authority, a prominent corporation in a regulated sector, or a governmental agency. This role demands a proactive problem-solver who can navigate complex challenges with a blend of creativity and practicality, coupled with the confidence to question established norms.

Strong analytical and quantitative skills are essential, along with a solid understanding of economics, finance, and public law. Proven experience in collaborating effectively with government bodies or regulatory authorities on diverse policy and regulatory matters is crucial, as is the ability to advise at the Board level on public policy issues.

An effective communicator, you will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate productive relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives. Additionally, experience in leading and inspiring teams of policy, regulatory, or economic specialists is highly valued.
