Job Overview

Embark on a rewarding career with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). If you are looking for a role that offers growth, purpose, and a supportive environment, consider joining our team. Our employees share their experiences about the inclusive culture at HMRC.

We are excited to announce an opportunity within the Financial Accreditation Team (FA Team). This dynamic position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a project-driven environment and wish to deepen their understanding of HMRC's tax systems and processes.

The ideal candidate will enjoy collaboration, possess confidence, and be able to articulate their insights effectively among peers. You will play a vital role in driving meaningful change within HMRC.

In this fast-paced project setting, you will build relationships and provide expert advice to facilitate the effective transformation of HMRC's financial systems and processes. Your responsibilities will include specifying financial requirements for change initiatives and ensuring their successful implementation.

This role is crucial for enabling HMRC to manage financial transactions in alignment with strategic objectives and accounting standards. It presents an excellent opportunity to enhance your leadership, assurance, and collaboration skills.

Important Note: This position is only available at designated locations; alternative locations are not an option.

Your office location is contractual, and if selected, you are expected to work from that office at least 60% of your available time.

The successful candidate must remain in this position for a minimum of two years before considering a transfer within the same grade to a different business area. Please ensure you are comfortable with these requirements before applying.

Job Responsibilities

As a member of our welcoming and skilled team of accreditors, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of tax and finance accounting systems and processes. You will serve as a key stakeholder for Risk, Controls, and Financial Accounting (RCFA), collaborating with various finance sectors to ensure that change requirements are met and thoroughly tested.

Your accountability will include ensuring that the financial processes delivered by projects are secure, auditable, and enable accurate HMRC account production.

Successful candidates will engage in a tailored training program designed to help you:

  • Represent RCFA in a project change environment, advocating for our requirements.
  • Influence the financial accreditation process as the team adapts to the evolving pace of HMRC Change.
  • Develop skills to foster cooperative partnerships with project and program teams to ensure finance requirements are comprehended and executed.

While this role is not strictly accounting-focused, familiarity with accounting principles and systems is advantageous.

As a department dedicated to continuous professional development, this position offers opportunities to expand your knowledge and support your career growth.

Candidate Profile

We are committed to helping you develop your skills, enabling you to take ownership and lead the accreditation of complex and high-risk project changes. You will build a broad network of contacts and engage in diverse subjects across HMRC.

Your role will involve leading the introduction of finance requirements for projects, ensuring that changes to HMRC accounting systems and processes undergo rigorous testing and analysis.

You will achieve this by:

  • Maintaining engagement with project teams throughout the change cycle to manage risks and issues, prioritizing your work to meet critical deadlines.
  • Collaborating with a team of accreditors, subject matter experts, and IT specialists to ensure requirements are fulfilled.
  • Coaching and mentoring staff to enhance their development and delivery of accreditation.
  • Providing written updates and summaries to support senior management during project evaluations.
  • Potentially overseeing HR management responsibilities.

Important Note: This role may require frequent travel, including overnight stays, sometimes on short notice.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with a proven ability to influence and engage senior partners in a large organization.
  • Experience in project management, finance, audit, or assurance roles.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Capability to manage multiple deadlines and conflicting priorities.
  • Analytical skills to summarize information and make informed recommendations.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in a project change environment.
  • Knowledge of taxation principles.
  • Familiarity with accounting and project management principles, including qualifications such as:
    • Part/fully qualified accountant (CIMA or equivalent).
    • Part/fully qualified Association of Accounting Technician (AAT).
    • Audit qualifications.
    • Project Management qualifications.

Technical Skills Assessment:

During the selection process, candidates will be required to deliver a brief presentation on their skills and experience, highlighting how they can add value to this position.

Benefits:
