Job Title: Adventure Learning Professional

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Adventure Learning Professional to join our team at the Institute for Outdoor Learning. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and leading our Adventure Learning Programme, working closely with our Adventure Learning Manager to deliver high-quality outdoor education experiences for our pupils.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead the Adventure Learning Programme, including planning and delivering expeditions, training sessions, and outdoor activities.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to support the delivery of outdoor education and adventure learning opportunities.
  • Manage and support pupils through the Duke of Edinburgh awards, using eDofE systems to track progress and ensure smooth delivery.
  • Organise and lead expeditions, including route planning, allocation of assessors, and logistics.
  • Develop and deliver a range of outdoor-based educational pathways for senior school pupils, including activities such as climbing, orienteering, and hillwalking.
  • Work with the Educational and Community Partnerships Manager to develop partnerships with local schools and community groups to provide access to outdoor learning opportunities.
  • Develop and deliver staff training and development programmes to raise staff skill and confidence in the outdoors.
Requirements:
  • Experience in outdoor education and adventure learning, with a strong track record of delivering high-quality programmes.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to work effectively with teaching staff, pupils, and external partners.
  • Strong organisational and logistical skills, with the ability to plan and deliver complex expeditions and events.
  • Current water-based Scottish or National Governing Body (SGB or NGB) awards would be an advantage.
