Job Overview

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced logistics professional to join their team as a Logistics Operations Specialist. This exciting opportunity will involve managing the day-to-day operations of the Central Logistics Unit, ensuring adequate stocks of medical consumables and stationary supplies are held at predetermined levels, and organizing delivery schedules.

Main Duties of the Job
  1. To supervise the operations of the Central Logistics Unit, overseeing the day-to-day running of the unit, ensuring staff carry out their duties in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner, in accordance with Trust policy, protocol, and procedure.
  2. To liaise with other directorates within the Trust to ensure relevant supplies are held and delivery schedules fulfilled, and to ensure the department meets the needs of the service.
  3. To ensure that all station orders are fulfilled and received as requested or determined, and that any discrepancies are immediately brought to the attention of the Logistics & Distribution Manager.
  4. To comply with and ensure all departmental staff comply with relevant Trust policies.
  5. To ensure all requisitions are actioned within one day of receipt.
  6. To raise purchase orders with nominated companies within contractual arrangements.
  7. To advise the Logistics & Distribution Manager on proposed departmental budget spend as required, ensuring adherence to standing Trust financial policies.
  8. To ensure that goods received at the Central Logistics Unit are stored as per manufacturer's recommendations and in accordance with Trust Health and Safety procedures.

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of emergency, urgent care, and non-emergency healthcare services, along with commercial logistics services.

The Trust delivers most of these services to the populations of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, and Oxfordshire as well as non-emergency patient transport services in Surrey and Sussex.

We serve a population of over 7 million and answer over 500,000 urgent calls a year. We employ 4,551 staff who, together with over 1,100 volunteers, enable us to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

Person Specification

Essential criteria:

  • Proof of extensive broad experience in various stores positions and logistics centres in a supervisory capacity with an IT infrastructure.
  • Previous experience of working in supplies management, distribution, and stock control, preferably in a supervisory role, in a controlled environment.
  • Knowledge of stock control Systems.
  • Knowledge of stock rotation.
  • Experience of using a variety of IT software including Microsoft Office, and Excel for preference.
  • B Category driving license.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Excellent Communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Clinical device management.

Desirable criteria:

  • Qualified in the use of manual handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of the NHS supply chain.
  • Experience in driving commercial sized vehicles.
  • Category C1 driving licence.
