Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a dedicated professional to elevate their career within the healthcare sector. We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Consultant Clinical Scientist, registered with HCPC, who possesses full FRCPath and a minimum of five years of post-registration experience.

The successful applicant will serve as a Consultant Clinical Scientist at Band 8C, specializing in Infection & Immunity - Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (H&I), with a keen focus on Clinical Informatics and Clinical Effectiveness.

Your role will involve spearheading innovative method development and quality enhancement initiatives in clinical informatics and effectiveness. A proven history of implementing significant improvements in service delivery is essential. The clinical team is dedicated to maximizing the value of H&I services, collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders, translating clinical needs into actionable laboratory processes, and ensuring the effective integration of technology in clinical practice.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

  • Provide strong leadership and direction to all teams and individuals within the Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics Department.
  • Oversee the performance, monitoring, and evaluation of complex activities within the department, particularly focusing on service delivery and turnaround times.
  • Ensure the quality of patient results and maintain UKAS and EFI laboratory accreditation standards.
  • Initiate and assess new techniques and methods for routine application, contributing to policy development and implementation.

Clinical Services

  • Deliver analytical, interpretive, and advisory services within the H&I department, supporting the diagnosis and management of patients.
  • Participate in the consultant clinical scientist rota, providing clinical interpretation and advisory services.
  • Conduct timely clinical authorizations and reporting of patient test results, often requiring urgent clinical advice.
  • Engage in the training of Higher Specialist Trainees and clinical scientists within the department.

Research and Development

  • Design and execute funded research and development projects, supporting clinical trials.
  • Seek external funding to facilitate departmental research and foster collaborations with national and international centers.
  • Maintain industry connections through the development of patentable products in collaboration with NHS Innovations.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess a first degree or equivalent knowledge, a master's degree in clinical biochemistry or a related field, and full membership or fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists. Registration as a clinical scientist with HCPC is essential.

Demonstrated experience in advanced clinical practice, research, and development activities is required, along with a strong foundation in human biochemistry and analytical methods.
