Position Overview:

About the Role

The Hammersmith and Fulham Council has recognized the urgent need to address climate change and has established a significant target for achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030. The Sustainability Engagement Manager is a pivotal role for a dynamic communicator and dedicated climate advocate who can drive meaningful change. This position is responsible for leading the council's initiatives in community involvement, social responsibility, and public consultation aimed at tackling the climate crisis.

The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the Climate Team and various departments within the Council to realize the vision of combating climate change, fostering a low-carbon ethos throughout the organization. Additionally, the manager will engage with a diverse range of stakeholders in the borough, including community organizations, academic institutions, businesses, educational establishments, and other entities to promote progress towards net zero goals.

Key responsibilities will encompass:

  • Implementing innovative, evidence-based strategies to encourage behavioral change across the borough.
  • Facilitating the H&F Climate Alliance, a cooperative network dedicated to achieving the net-zero carbon emissions target.
  • Upholding the council's principle of 'Collaborating with residents rather than imposing on them,' particularly focusing on socially and economically marginalized communities while addressing the challenges posed by high-emission entities.

The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of the climate emergency, a keen interest in environmental matters, outstanding interpersonal abilities, and the capacity to lead teams within a fast-paced environment. The role demands a varied and results-oriented workload, including the effective management of digital platforms that foster community engagement, events, and collaborative efforts among residents, council services, and partner organizations to confront the climate and ecological crisis.
