The primary responsibility of the Sustainability Operations Manager is to oversee reporting, energy management, and compliance with sustainability standards for our facilities management account. This position encompasses a diverse portfolio of properties, including retail centers, multi-tenant office buildings, industrial parks, and other assets managed by FI Real Estate Management Ltd, necessitating a robust technical understanding of commercial building systems.
Key Objectives of the Role:
- To effectively manage energy resources in alignment with client goals and targets.
- To identify, develop, and implement innovative energy-related initiatives.
- To execute all energy-related responsibilities to ensure service delivery and compliance.
- To inspire and educate personnel in energy management practices.
Core Responsibilities:
- Advocate for energy efficiency and provide guidance on developing energy-efficient practices.
- Formulate and implement Energy & Sustainability strategies for various sites.
- Gather and present comprehensive reports on Utilities, Waste, and Carbon Emissions on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, taking full ownership of data management platforms.
- Analyze data to uncover opportunities for enhancing energy efficiency, benchmarking against industry standards.
- Develop sustainability initiatives tailored to the account.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of corporate energy strategies, legal requirements, and technical issues impacting client properties.
- Stay informed about developments in the Energy Market, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.
- Train Energy Engineers and oversee their activities to ensure efficient operations.
- Collaborate with clients to establish a comprehensive strategy for energy needs, aligning with the organization's strategic objectives and representing the Energy Department across all business areas.
- Develop and manage corporate energy policies and strategies in partnership with stakeholders to achieve energy reduction targets through effective implementation.
- Advise on energy strategies and solutions, transforming them into actionable projects that meet client objectives and adhere to best practices.
- Promote policies and achievements to highlight their contributions to overall success.
- Conduct energy assessments within client facilities.
- Develop and implement strategic guidelines for design standards to meet client objectives.
- Provide detailed feasibility studies for costed initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption.
- Manage projects and implement initiatives effectively.
- Support the Head of Projects in ensuring that initiatives are as energy-efficient as financially feasible.
- Monitor and verify project outcomes throughout the entire project lifecycle to achieve cost-effective and energy-efficient solutions.
- Report on utility usage, specifically focusing on consumption metrics.
- Deliver energy and utility consumption profiles to the Finance Department for internal allocation and accounting purposes.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
- Open to both recent graduates in energy management and experienced professionals.
- Proficient in conducting comprehensive energy assessments and feasibility studies of energy technologies.
- Understanding of customer operations, business drivers, financial aspects, and relevant legislative requirements.
- Capable of preparing detailed energy efficiency proposals and reports.
- Knowledgeable about HVAC, refrigeration, and lighting systems and their design/integration principles.
- Competent in current benchmarking techniques and statistical analysis.
- Extensive knowledge of techniques and technologies that promote efficient energy use.
- Strong familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and control theory.
- Possess an appropriate energy-related qualification or equivalent in building services engineering.
- Excellent written communication skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Self-driven with exceptional time management abilities.
- Commercial insight gained from experience and/or qualifications.
- Proficient in IT tools, including Word and Excel.
- Competent in cost control, variance analysis, and forecasting reporting.
- Relevant professional membership, such as CIBSE or the Energy Institute, is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Output Specifications and performance-based contracts.
