Job Summary

Vancouver Community College is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Simulation Laboratory Technologist to join our team in the School of Health Sciences. This is a permanent, full-time position that requires a strong understanding of simulation technologies, healthcare simulation standards of best practice, and a proven working knowledge of simulated learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Simulation Lab Administration: Provide technical training and support to faculty in the use of simulation equipment and the development and implementation of simulation activities.
  • Lab Operations: Supervise students and provide technical support in the proper operation of high-fidelity equipment, conduct simulation practice runs, and provide assistance to students and supervise simulation lab activities.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Troubleshoot organizational issues relating to simulation setup, overall maintenance of the labs and equipment, and equipment operations through visual inspection, communications with staff and faculty, and redeployment of equipment/supplies to meet unexpected needs.
  • Equipment Management: Conduct manageable routine diagnostic monitoring, preventive maintenance, and repairs, as well as software updates, to ensure optimal functioning of audio-visual equipment, software, and connectivity within simulation spaces.
  • Supply Chain Management: Source supplies and equipment and work with the School of Health Sciences leadership on efficient and effective procurement processes.
  • Professional Standards: Ensure laboratory procedures adhere to appropriate professional standards, including those established by the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Standards of Best Practice in Simulation and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) accreditation standards.
  • Interprofessional Education: Assist with interprofessional education (IPE) activities across the School of Health Sciences programs.
Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in healthcare, or information technology, or equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.
  • Work Experience: Minimum two (2) years of related work experience in a clinical healthcare setting and/or simulation laboratory settings in an educational institution.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with the use of related software and hardware, including video and audio recording equipment, and proficiency in operating equipment such as computer software applications, audio-visual systems, and human patient simulators.
  • Soft Skills: Demonstrated creativity and flexibility in setting up realistic lab simulations and designing innovative approaches to solving problems, ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and apparatus, and ability to work variable hours with a minimum of supervision.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency and demonstrated skills with Outlook, Word, and Excel.
