Payroll Director

Job Summary:
The Payroll Manager is a key role within the Village Hotels - Central Team, responsible for leading the payroll department and ensuring the accurate processing of wages, benefits, and deductions for circa 4,500 employees. This role requires a technically strong payroll professional who can lead by example and impart their in-depth payroll knowledge to the team.
Key Responsibilities:- Payroll Processing: Ensure that employee salaries, benefits, and deductions are processed accurately and on time.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, ensuring financial confidentiality.
- Reporting: Generate and share reports on payroll activity, particularly for new hires and terminations.
- Compliance: Ensure that payroll practices comply with relevant laws and regulations, including working hours and minimum wage.
- Team Management: Lead and develop a team of payroll assistants, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Error Resolution: Resolve payroll errors and discrepancies in a timely and efficient manner.
- Change Management: Monitor and manage changes to employee status, including promotions, transfers, and terminations.
- Payroll Journal Entries: Complete all payroll journal entries at the end of each payroll period.
- Team Management: Manage and mentor a small team of experienced payroll professionals.
- HMRC Submissions: Ensure that all HMRC submissions are made, payroll reconciliations carried out, and all legislative timescales are adhered to.
- Payroll Projects: Lead on all payroll-related projects, ensuring timely completion and effective implementation.
- Pension Processing: Process accurately the pension(s) to our external partners.
- Procedure Development: Develop and refine payroll procedures to ensure efficiency and compliance.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the finance and People & Development team to achieve shared goals.
- Support and Advice: Provide support and advice to the Hotel General Managers on cost efficiencies.
- Payroll Experience: Previous experience of managing or supervising a payroll team.
- Technical Knowledge: Excellent current, technical payroll knowledge.
- Mentoring: Ability to mentor and develop a team.
- Payroll Systems: Experience of processing payroll via our Fourth payroll solution.
- Systems and Numerical Skills: Excellent systems and numerical skills.
- Payroll Qualification: Payroll Management qualification (desirable).
