Job Title: Payroll Manager

Job Summary:

The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading an efficient payroll department, ensuring accurate processing of wages, timely payment, and compliance with relevant tax and employment laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Process payroll: Ensure accurate and timely processing of employee salaries, benefits, and deductions.
  2. Maintain records: Keep employee records and ensure financial confidentiality.
  3. Generate reports: Create and share reports on payroll activity, especially for new hires and terminations.
  4. Comply with regulations: Ensure payroll practices comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  5. Manage staff: Lead and develop a team of payroll assistants.
  6. Resolve errors: Resolve payroll errors.
  7. Monitor changes: Monitor promotions, transfers, and terminations.
  8. Complete payroll journal entries: Complete all payroll journal entries at the end of each payroll period.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage and mentor a small team of experienced payroll professionals.
  • Ensure all HMRC submissions are made, payroll reconciliations carried out, and legislative timescales are adhered to.
  • Lead on all payroll-related projects.
  • Process pensions accurately to external partners.
  • Develop and refine payroll procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with the finance and People & Development team.
  • Provide support and advice to Hotel General Managers on cost efficiencies.

Personal Specification:

  • Previous experience of managing or supervising a payroll team.
  • Excellent current, technical payroll knowledge.
  • Ability to mentor and develop a team.
  • Experience of processing payroll via Fourth payroll solution for circa 4,500 employees.
  • Excellent systems and numerical skills.
  • A technically strong payroll professional who can lead by example and impart their in-depth payroll knowledge to the team.
  • Hands-on with Senior Teams to manage payroll processing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including active listening and report writing.
  • Payroll Management qualification (desirable).
