Payroll Director

Job Summary:
The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading an efficient payroll department, ensuring accurate processing of wages, timely payment, and compliance with relevant tax and employment laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process payroll: Ensure accurate and timely processing of employee salaries, benefits, and deductions.
- Maintain records: Keep employee records and ensure financial confidentiality.
- Generate reports: Create and share reports on payroll activity, especially for new hires and terminations.
- Comply with regulations: Ensure payroll practices comply with relevant laws and regulations.
- Manage staff: Lead and develop a team of payroll assistants.
- Resolve errors: Resolve payroll errors.
- Monitor changes: Monitor promotions, transfers, and terminations.
- Complete payroll journal entries: Complete all payroll journal entries at the end of each payroll period.
Key Accountabilities:
- Manage and mentor a small team of experienced payroll professionals.
- Ensure all HMRC submissions are made, payroll reconciliations carried out, and legislative timescales are adhered to.
- Lead on all payroll-related projects.
- Process pensions accurately to external partners.
- Develop and refine payroll procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the finance and People & Development team.
- Provide support and advice to Hotel General Managers on cost efficiencies.
Personal Specification:
- Previous experience of managing or supervising a payroll team.
- Excellent current, technical payroll knowledge.
- Ability to mentor and develop a team.
- Experience of processing payroll via Fourth payroll solution for circa 4,500 employees.
- Excellent systems and numerical skills.
- A technically strong payroll professional who can lead by example and impart their in-depth payroll knowledge to the team.
- Hands-on with Senior Teams to manage payroll processing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including active listening and report writing.
- Payroll Management qualification (desirable).
