We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Psychiatric Consultant to join our dynamic team within the NHS. This permanent position involves working in specialized male high dependency rehabilitation and recovery inpatient units, focusing on the treatment of individuals with severe mental health disorders.

Your role will encompass overseeing the Gwelfor unit, which accommodates eighteen male patients, as well as the Step-Down Houses, a community rehabilitation facility consisting of two residences that provide varying levels of support.

This position is a replacement role, collaborating with a Speciality Doctor and supported by a comprehensive Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) that includes Occupational Therapy and Psychology professionals. Additionally, there are opportunities for a CT3 psychiatry trainee to gain experience alongside the clinical team. A General Practitioner will provide medical oversight at Gwelfor and the Step-Down Houses on a weekly basis.

As part of the medical team, you will work closely with a broader rehabilitation team, which includes low secure services and a community Adult Forensic Community Team, ensuring a holistic approach to patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include delivering a clinical service that encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions. You will maintain ongoing responsibility for the welfare of all patients under your care, ensuring effective delegation and training of staff.

In collaboration with clinical and managerial colleagues, you will contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the services. You may also serve as an Educational Supervisor for junior staff, guiding their training and providing career advice in accordance with specialist guidelines.

Active participation in the clinical directorate structure will be expected, allowing you to influence service and directorate planning processes.

You will be part of the 1 in 20 on-call consultant rota, with the possibility of covering additional locations within the Health Board as needed.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Registered with the GMC and licensed to practice.
  • On the Specialist Register with GMC as a specialist in psychiatry or eligible for CCT.
  • Primary CCT or endorsement in CAMHS or General Adult Psychiatry.
  • Teaching qualification or higher qualification in medical education.
Skills and Attributes

  • Experience in collaborating with management and clinical colleagues to enhance service delivery.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and a commitment to continuous improvement.
