Role Overview:

Reports to: Quadrant Manager (Technical Team Manager)

The selected candidate will be an integral member of the Service Delivery team, providing essential support for the research and Science Technology Platform (STP) laboratories. While primarily assigned to a specific floor, the role requires flexibility to assist in various areas as needed, leading to a diverse range of daily tasks. This position offers a pathway to advance into more technical operational roles, which may involve responsibilities such as stock management, maintenance of scientific equipment, health and safety oversight, and collaboration with scientific teams to ensure efficient laboratory operations. It is an ideal opportunity for individuals aspiring to build a career in laboratory operations support.

Key Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the organization and cleanliness of laboratory spaces, including waste removal.
  • Managing laboratory supply inventory, which includes stock verification, updating electronic stock records, receiving deliveries, and assisting with restocking procedures. Maintaining the integrity of the supply chain from logistics to researchers, ensuring proper storage of temperature-sensitive items.
  • Handling hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols, including the preparation of hazardous waste for disposal.
  • Supporting the maintenance of communal scientific equipment.
  • Assisting with the inventory management of chemicals and ensuring their safe storage.
  • Participating in the filling of Liquid Nitrogen vessels and changing gas cylinders as necessary.
  • Performing additional duties as directed by the Technical Team Manager or Quadrant Manager.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum qualifications include Mathematics, Science, and English GCSE or relevant experience in a technical or service-oriented role.
  • Basic proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to follow work instructions accurately, document information, and perform tasks diligently.
  • Self-driven with a flexible mindset and a strong attention to detail, capable of working independently.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently and diplomatically with individuals at all levels.
  • Proactive in responding to immediate needs within the laboratory environment, with the ability to escalate issues to the Quadrant Manager as necessary.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Understanding of the importance of service quality.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Adaptability to changing team needs and willingness to rotate tasks and work areas as required.
