About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team at Stantec UK. As a key member of our hydro power team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting the testing of mechanical systems for hydropower and pumped storage hydro projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop mechanical systems for hydropower and pumped storage hydro projects, including turbines, pumps, generators, and control systems.
  • Take line management responsibility for some members of the team and support business growth and strategy development.
  • Work closely with project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, planners, and other stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for projects and communities.
  • Lead the team, acting as a mentor or guide to less experienced members.
Requirements
  • Chartered or Incorporated status with the IMechE is preferred.
  • Specific experience in mechanical design of hydro and/or pumped storage hydro systems is a must.
  • Mechanical experience in other sectors, particularly elsewhere within the Energy and Water sectors, is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills to give technical presentations to clients and other design engineers.
  • Ability to work within a full 3D environment using appropriate tools to sketch and review models and within a common data environment.
