We are seeking a seasoned and accomplished Chief Underwriting Officer to join our team at Lawes Insurance Recruitment. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a strong background in underwriting, operations, and commercial insurance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive underwriting strategy to drive business growth and achieve company objectives.
  • Lead and mentor a team of underwriters, providing guidance and support in complex risk assessment and pricing decisions.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of underwriting processes with overall business operations.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor underwriting performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and innovation in underwriting practices.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in underwriting and commercial insurance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful underwriting strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting operations, risk assessment, and pricing models.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Understanding of industry regulations and compliance requirements.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to set underwriting strategy and goals.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to underwriting team members.
  • Review and approve complex underwriting decisions.
  • Analyse underwriting performance metrics and develop action plans for improvement.
  • Stay updated on industry developments and best practices in underwriting.
