About the Role

The Munich Re Specialty Group is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Chief Underwriting Officer - Retail to lead our retail underwriting activities in Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive retail underwriting strategy, ensuring the quality of underwriting and adherence to guidelines, protocols, and controls.
  • Direct and manage technical underwriting activities, ensuring a high level of technical proficiency across all areas.
  • Collaborate with Global Product CUOs and Global Product Heads to develop new product rates, rules, and policy forms, and maintain consistency of existing products.
  • Manage the portfolio across Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific to achieve business mix and performance goals.
  • Monitor insurance market trends and developments to inform underwriting policy and strategy.
  • Lead a high-performance matrix management team of Country Heads of Underwriting, attracting, recruiting, and retaining top talent.
Requirements
  • Proven executive leadership experience, ideally as Chief Underwriting Officer, Head of Underwriting, or Product Head.
  • In-depth knowledge of exposure and experience rating processes.
  • Technical expertise in single risk and delegated underwriting in Specialty lines of business.
  • Excellent people skills, including stakeholder management.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to present to all levels of organizations.
  • Strategic thinking, with a proven track record of general business management, including planning and forecasting.
  • Cross-cultural savvy, with experience working in Europe (outside the UK) and Asia Pacific.
  • Language skills, with proficiency in at least two main European languages in addition to English.
