As we grow, we are on the lookout for a highly qualified and seasoned Lead Electrical Systems Engineer to become a vital member of our specialized Power Systems Team.

In the role of Lead Electrical Systems Engineer, you will be instrumental in the design and enhancement of electrical systems within the data centre domain. Your key responsibilities will encompass conducting computer simulations, assisting design teams, and ensuring the robustness and efficiency of power distribution networks. We particularly value candidates with proficiency in ETAP, though experience with DigSilent or SKM will also be taken into account.

Key Responsibilities

1. Simulation Proficiency:

  • Perform load flow assessments to guarantee optimal power distribution across data centre facilities.
  • Execute short circuit evaluations to determine the resilience of the electrical system under fault scenarios.
  • Coordinate protection mechanisms to bolster the reliability and safety of the power distribution framework.
  • Conduct arc flash analyses to reduce hazards and ensure adherence to safety regulations.
  • Carry out harmonic assessments to alleviate power quality challenges and enhance system performance.

2. Collaborative Design Assistance:

  • Engage closely with design teams to comprehend project specifications.
  • Provide expert insights and support in electrical system components to design teams.
  • Assist in the assessment and selection of electrical apparatus for power distribution.

3. Transient Stability Analysis:

  • Experience in Transient Stability analysis is advantageous, contributing to the robustness of electrical systems under dynamic conditions.

4. Documentation and Reporting:

  • Validate input data to ensure precision and reliability in simulation outcomes.
  • Compile detailed reports outlining simulation findings, recommendations, and design considerations.
  • Review models and reports generated by the team.
  • Maintain accurate and current documentation related to electrical system simulations and design support tasks.
  • Encourage and engage in effective management processes.

5. Ongoing Professional Development:

  • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Contribute to the continuous enhancement of simulation methodologies and tools within the power systems team.
  • Assist in expanding the simulation capabilities of the team to meet evolving demands.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in electrical systems engineering, ideally within the data centre sector.
  • Expertise in simulation software, particularly ETAP (preferred), DigSilent, or SKM.
  • Experience with Load Flow, Short Circuit Evaluations, Protection Coordination, Arc Flash, Harmonic Assessments, and Underground Cable Sizing.
  • Experience in conducting Transient Stability analyses is desirable.
  • Experience in performing Earthing Studies is desirable.
  • Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of the models of primary electrical machines, including but not limited to generators, transformers, motors, and UPS systems.
  • Experience in both LV and MV systems, ideally HV up to 132 kV.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems control and SCADA systems.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Benefits

RED Engineering Design offers a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:

  • 23 days of annual leave, increasing to 28 days with five years of service.
  • Holiday purchase and buy-back options.
