Role Overview

As a result of our growth, we are in search of a Senior Electrical Engineer to assist in delivering a diverse array of engineering projects. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the design of Electrical Engineering Systems for new marine platforms, life extension initiatives, and in-service modifications.
  • Advising on the integration of electrical systems and equipment within ships, submarines, and other marine vessels.
  • Providing electrical engineering support across various technical consultancy projects, primarily in the Maritime (Defence or Commercial Shipping) Sector, as well as Land and Environmental Sectors.
  • Engaging with clients to understand their needs and offer innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Managing electrical engineering projects.
  • Offering ad-hoc support to broader mechanical and marine engineering initiatives.

This role is primarily based in the Southwest, with the flexibility to work from various locations across the UK. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in a hybrid model, combining remote and office-based work as agreed upon during the application process.

Candidate Profile

Are you eager to apply your engineering expertise to diverse challenges, from advising clients on engineering projects to supporting the development of new systems? If so, this position may be an excellent fit for you.

We seek team members with a background in Electrical or Integrated Electrical Engineering who are ready to advance their knowledge and experience within BMT.

As part of the Marine Engineering Capability, we are looking for someone who can independently deliver assigned tasks while providing professional engineering services across the department. Candidates should have a solid understanding and experience in applying electrical engineering principles, methodologies, processes, and tools to related design and engineering activities.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant Naval/Commercial Marine electrical experience.
  • Preferably Chartered Engineer status with a recognized professional body, or at least Incorporated Engineer status with relevant experience and working towards Chartered Engineer status.
  • Proven electrical experience in the Maritime (Defence Surface/Sub-Surface or Commercial Shipping) or Environmental sectors.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of leading technical projects within time, cost, and quality constraints.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of communicating effectively with stakeholders at all levels through meetings, reports, and presentations.
  • Ability to mentor less experienced staff and engage in constructive feedback.
  • Flexibility to work on a variety of projects across different customer sites, utilizing a broad range of technical skills and knowledge.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional service to our clients.

Additionally, the following experience would be advantageous:

  • Interaction with equipment suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Understanding the complexities of integrating electrical systems within marine platforms.
  • Experience in design intent management and working within a shipyard environment.
  • Familiarity with Class Society Rules.
  • Knowledge of electrical regulations and legislation.
  • Engaging with clients to understand their requirements and developing proposals that deliver innovative solutions.
  • Project management experience.
  • Leading junior staff and supporting their technical development.
