Job Overview

The North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Head of Special Operations. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and contribute to the development and implementation of our Special Operations strategy.

Main Duties of the Job

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing our Special Operations response capabilities, ensuring they are delivered and maintained in line with local, regional, and national requirements. This will involve providing visible and empowering leadership to operational staff and their supporting management team, as well as building and maintaining effective partnerships with other emergency service partners at local, regional, and national levels.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the development and implementation of our Special Operations strategy
  • Provide leadership and direction to operational staff and their supporting management team
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with other emergency service partners
  • Ensure compliance with local, regional, and national requirements
  • Undertake on-call duties as a National Interagency Liaison Officer (NILO)
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in emergency response and management, with experience in leading and managing teams. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to analyze complex situations and provide effective advice.

Requirements
  • Educated to Masters level (or working towards)
  • Postgraduate diploma in Management Studies or equivalent experience
  • Relevant external training to maintain continuing professional development
  • Holder of National Interagency Liaison Officer (NILO) qualification (or working towards)
  • Qualified to State Registered Paramedic
  • Successful completion of CBRN Provider, Operational, and Tactical Command Courses
  • A full UK driving license
  • Registered on the National Blue Light Driving Register (or working towards)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High levels of interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence, support, develop, and appraise staff
  • Management, motivation, and team leadership skills
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
